St. Francis Church

Sunday, April 10 was The Fifth Sunday in Lent, commonly called Passion Sunday. This designation is unique to the Anglican tradition and commerates Christ’s physical suffering. It is a fairly recent addition to the liturgical calendar, dating from the 19th century and first incorporated into the 1928 edition of the Book of Common Prayer which we use at St. Francis. Bishop Hartley based his sermon on the Gospel for the day, St. John 8:46, in which Jesus instructs the religious leaders of the day in his true nature: “Before Abraham was,  I am.” Christ is eternal and timeless, existing outside of tiem and forever.

Congratulations are in order to our acolyte, Lincoln Connell, who has been selected to attend the Missouri Scholars Academy held during the summer on the campus of the University of Missouri at Columbia. The MSA is a three-week academic program for 330 of Missouri’s gifted students who are going into their junior year of high school. We are very proud of our young people and their accomplishments.

Everyone is welcome at St. Francis Anglican (Traditional Episcopal) Church where Bishop Glen Hartley conducts services Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. Visit our website at stfrancisavamo.org.
