The new bridge on Route B north of Mt. Zion has been completed and the road was scheduled to reopen between 4 and 5 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
Just as that route was reopening, Highway 76 east of Vanzant was closed on Monday, April 11, for bridge replacement at Red Bank Creek. That route is scheduled to be closed until May 17.
Six bridges in Douglas County are being replaced this summer and fall by MoDOT.
The Fox Creek bridge on Highway 14 near Gentryville will be closed May 24 to July 20; the Cowskin Creek bridge on Highway 14 west of Ava will close June 14 through July 9; the Beaver Creek bridge on Highway 76 west of Ava will close July 11 to Aug. 24; and the Bryant Creek bridge east of Ava on Highway 76 will close Oct. 10 to Dec. 6.
Ava Area Chamber of Commerce director Judy Shields says the Chamber office has maps available to show these routes that will be closed and can also help residents find the best route around the closed bridges.
MoDOT will only show detour routes using other state routes around these areas, but motorists can use county roads for shorter routes around the closed bridges.
The Chamber of Commerce office can provide you with a map showing the best and/or shortest route around the affected area.
The Ava Area Chamber of Commerce is located on Highway 5 at SW 13th Ave. Their telephone number is 683-4594.
