I was honored to receive the John Dickison award for community service at the Ava Area Chamber of Commerce Banquet, Saturday evening. An honor like this is especially nice when you consider the character and quality of the persons who have received this honor in the past. The fact that I was nominated by someone who had worked with me for many years adds to the honor.
There are many boards, councils, community organizations, and volunteers in Ava and Douglas County whose goals are to make our community a better place. Some are working to make it a safer place, some are working to encourage people to adopt healthy habits, and all are trying to make positive changes. Positive changes don’t just happen. It takes planning, cooperation, and just plan work. The work is easier if the members of these organizations show up when there are meetings. Your most valuable people may not necessarily be the smartest or best trained, but they are the ones who are faithful.
