Quad Cities

4-4-11. Three words for the weather this morning – dark, windy and chilly. We went from 83 degrees yesterday to 43 degrees today. But it could be much worse. We had a severe thunderstorm warning and tornado watch yesterday evening. We were prepared to go to the basement if need be, but luckily didn’t have to. We had some wind and hail, but as far as I know it didn’t do any damage here or anywhere. They just said on the news they didn’t have any damage to report. A lot of places got hail and one place got baseball size hail so I’m surprised there wasn’t damage there. We had a good week, last week. My brother, Claud, and Marlene were in Winsconsin to visit her mother in the nursing home and they called and said they would be going through Muscatine, Iowa on their way home on Thursday. So we met them in Muscatine and all of us ate in the Family Restaurant where Lisa works and had a wonderful visit. They really liked the food there. So far everyone has always liked it a lot and of course, we got to visit with Lisa too. I had asked Claud and Marlene to bring me an Ava, Missouri phone book and they did so I was glad to get that. They also brought us some of that very, very good Winsconsin cheese curds. They are so good. I hadn’t eaten any for a long, long time and Walt said he never had eaten them before so we’ve sure enjoyed them. It’s hard to stop eating once you start. It’s been a few years since I’ve been to Ava, MO. So I haven’t seen any of my family or relatives for a long time. It was sure good to see them again. I wish we could be closer and see them and other relatives more often.

Anita’s husband, Carl, has had  pneumonia. He had the flu for a couple of weeks and it turned into that. The doctor let him go back to work Thursday. He is supposed to take a breathing test today. I hope it turns out okay. He may have to quit smoking. He’s diabetic and I think that may make things a little harder on us when we have that. Anita has to quit smoking because she’s got that eye disease that deteriates the eye sight. The doctor that told her that said he couldn’t do anything for it, but Lisa talked to Carl’s cousin and he said that’s what they told him in Muscatine. So he went to the VA hospital in Iowa City and they cured it for him. So I told Anita she should go to my eye doctor because he and the surgeon saved me from glaucoma. Thank goodness! I guess that’s all folks. So bye, bye for now.
