The Ava Lady Bears traveled to Mtn. View on Tuesday, April 5, for an all-relays track contest with eight area school competing.
On the girls’ side, Mtn. Grove won the meet with 97 points. Ava came in second with 70 points and Salem was one point back in third with 69 points.
Liberty was fourth with 56 points, followed by Willow Springs, 55 points; Houston, 30 points; Cabool, 25 points; and Licking, 20 points.
In this meet, the only one like it that the Lady Bears attend for the season, all events are in relay form including the field events.
Placing at Liberty for the Ava Lady Bears were:
The 4×800 team of junior Kendra McCleary, sophomores Christina Shortt and Ashley Rieken, and freshman Kacy Longino, placed third.
The co-ed shuttle hurdle relay also placed third with sophomores Brittany Walker, Danielle Dye, Caleb Miles and senior Charles Bruton.
The 4×200 team of seniors Kayley Watson and Nikki Rieken, freshman Courtney Mings and sophomore Hannah Johnson, placed third.
The 1600 co-ed team of Ashley Rieken and Christina Shortt took second with senior Zach Dixon and sophomore Kyle Clinkingbeard running the boys’ part of the race.
In the 4×100 relay, Watson and sophomore Amanda Greene, Mings and junior Melody Kennedy placed fifth.
In the triple jump relay, Watson and Walker took third.
In the shot put, sisters, Lindsey Armour, a senior, and freshman Emily Armour combined for eighth place.
Lindsey Armour also placed with Kacy Longino in the discus for sixth place.
Three of the Lady Bears relay teams brought home the gold.
The spring medley which is a 100-, 100-, 200- and 400-meter race placed first with Nikki Rieken, Johnson, Watson and Kennedy. The same team ran the 4×400 and placed first.
Also, in the long jump relay, Johnson and Nikki Rieken combined their jumps for a first place finish.
The track teams will compete at West Plains today (Thursday) and will be at home Monday afternoon with a 4 o’clock starting time.
