“Eat Well, Be Well with Diabetes” is a program designed to provide participants with practical information and skills needed to self-manage diabetes and promote optimal health.
“The program teaches the many aspects of diabetes self-care with a strong focus on nutrition,” said Tammy Roberts, the nutrition and health education specialist with University of Missouri Extension and instructor for the class.
The program is for anyone who has diabetes or pre-diabetes. Spouses and other family members of those with diabetes will also benefit from the class.
Participants will learn how to manage blood sugar levels, how to plan meals to better manage blood sugar using carbohydrate counting and other important aspects of diabetes self-care.
“The sessions use hands-on activities, a setting which encourages discussion and sharing among all participants,” said Roberts.
“Eat Well, Be Well” is designed to enhance, not replace, diabetes education provided by Certified Diabetes Educators or other qualified health professionals. This program does not provide individualized meal plans, nutrition counseling, or medical advice for participants.
