Norwood Area Gleanings

Mr. and Mrs. Delbert (Doris) Holder from Republic visited relatives around Norwood this weekend. Doris is the daughter of Ray and Anise (Ryan) Filer and a niece of Ruth Bradshaw. Saturday four first cousins got together. They were Teresa Chadwell, Leah Vaughan, Deana Kelly and Doris. Even though they (the Holders) live as close as Republic, they don’t get to visit often.

Betty Richardson, wife of the late Jerry Richardson, is in Cox South Hospital awaiting surgery to remove kidney stones. We wish her a quick recovery.

Auctions were numerous in Norwood Saturday. Three different ones at the sale barn, not at the same time and one in down town Saturday evening. The weather wasn’t pleasant but I hear they did fine.

Harold Vaughan had heart surgery at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Thursday. He is doing fine and that’s good news.

I hear Don and Jan Kelly of Norwood made a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, recently on behalf of being chosen as young entrepreneurs. Don started his own business as a young man and has continued having a business and is now very successful in what he’s doing. He didn’t win first place but near it and they are said to have had a great time there. They were treated like royalty. We are happy to have them as Norwood residents and they have done many things here to help our little town. Thanks Don and Jan. Don comes from hard working families on his father and mother’s family too.

Leo celebrated his 85th birthday this week on Monday. Our oldest grandson and wife Shelly Chadwell took us to the senior buffet at KFC in Mountain Grove. We enjoyed a very delicious meal and their good fellowship. We’ve had several relatives visit us this week. I had a call from one of my cousins Hazel “Heath” Benoit this week. She lives in Springfield. We grew up living close to each other.

Audrey (McIntosh) Carter passed away at Rocky Ridge Care Center in Mansfield a day or so ago. She has always lived in this area and we’ve known her family. Pray for them.

Rex Bradshaw has closed his auto parts business here and has moved to Nixa. The economy has hit a lot of business people. He had moved his business into a new building and location but it wasn’t doing good.

Our senior dinner will be April 12 at Caudle Church as usual on the second Tuesday. We hope to see you there.

I’m sorry to hear Janice (Kelley) Delcour is not doing good. Please pray for her. She lives at the lake near Theodosia now. She’s the daughter of Rex and Wava Kelley. A group of ladies have gone to Theodosia to spend a night and day at Laurel and Larry Hall’s lake home. They do this quite often.

Victory Hill Church will have a business meeting this Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Don’t forget. They haven’t been having Wednesday services recently on account of the weather. Bro. Randy Cottengim is the pastor. If you aren’t attending church anywhere they invite you to their services on Sunday.

Travis Coatney is home this weekend and will stay a month before going back to Columbia for another month. I was wrong about him coming home last weekend. We pray he will continue to improve. His mother, Rhonda, has not been well this week. She’s very tired and stressed out as we women get sometimes.

I mentioned recently about having one sister-in-law, that’s on my side of the family. I also have two left on my husband’s side. They are June Bradshaw, the late Howard’s wife and Pat Bradshaw, wife of James. I make lots of mistakes. A man once told me the only person who never makes a mistake is one that never does anything.
