This years Bicycle Ride with Legislators will take state lawmakers from the south Capitol steps in Jefferson City and cross the Missouri River to the Katy Trail.
“This is a ride that has been decades in the making,” said Brent Hugh, Executive Director of the Missouri Bicycle & Pedestrian Federation.
The Ride with Legislators is one event during the pedestrian/bicycle lane’s grand opening weekend. The ribbon cutting for the lane will be held Friday, April 8th.
Bicycle Ride with Legislators begins at 12:30 p.m., Monday, April 11. The group will leave from the south steps of the Missouri State Capitol, in Jefferson City.
From noon to 5 p.m. on April 11, the Tricycle Transit Company will provide free pedicab rides between the south Capitol steps and the new bridge so the legislators, staff, and the general public can tour the new pedestrian/bicycle lane.
Over 20 legislators, state officials, and city officials will participate in the ride, and the public is invited to attend. Citizens from all over Missouri will be attending and riding with their legislators.
This event is sponsored by Missouri State Parks and the Missouri Bicycle & Pedestrian Federation.
The Ride with Legislators and Pedicab Rides are part of 2011 Bicycle & Pedestrian Day at the Capitol.
