There’s an old song called You Never Mentioned Him To Me. It talks about standing before the throne of judgment and hearing lost souls make that statement. Sounds like a wake-up call. Imagine hearing someone on the south-bound train to nowhere cry out these very words when they see their friends standing in heaven ready to receive blessings. It nothing else, it should serve as a warning.
It says in II Peter 1:5-7 that there are 7 building blocks of Christianity. It says that these things are to be added to faith. So, once there is faith, add virtue, knowledge, self-control, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love. Christians cannot stand still and expect to add these graces. Of course, faith is the most important. It is like the foundation for a building. It has to be sturdy and well-done in order to hold the structure that goes on it. Christians can’t stop with faith.
It’s like the parable of the talents the preacher talked about today. The master gave 5 to one servant, 2 to another and only 1 to the last one. The first two servants doubled their master’s talents and the master said “well done”. However, the third buried his and returned only the one talent. That servant didn’t fare so well.
The book of Second Peter warns believers not to be frittering away their time. Look above at the building blocks. Frittering isn’t one of them. The closing verses of Chapter 3 (verses 13-18) sum it up. It’s important to know and grow and know and grow and know and grow—lest ‘ye’ wind up with the wicked.
