The Douglas County Historical Society held its monthly meeting on March 21, 2011 President Pat Carmichael called the meeting to order.
Sharon read the treasurers report and the minutes of the February meeting and they were approved.
A discussion was then held about the repairs on the porch and guttering and it was decided to get someone to do that. We then discussed the lawn care for this year and a motion was made by J. D. and seconded by Jack to give it to the ones that did it last year. They did a nice job.
A lady is wanting to donate a display in memory of her husband and we are needing a mannequin to use in it, so if anyone know of one please get in touch with the museum.
We discussed repairs and painting of the front porch and it was tabled until next month.
Sharon gave a report on the inspection and on what changes we need to make that the inspector recommended and the time period for them to be completed. He said that he really was surprise that our museum was the best he had went through in a long time for a town as small as ours.
A discussion on what displays we should accept, since we have over 5,000 items in the museum and a motion was made that any new items are subject to the approval by the board.
The work schedule was set up for the month of April and we will start our summer hours May 1. After a general discussion of things that need to be done, a motion was made by J. D. and seconded by Joe. to adjourn.
We want to send our sympathy out to Marilyn and Rodney Alms for the lost this week of Rodney¹s father Murrell. He was a very well know man in Ava and he will be greatly missed by all of us.
