Kevin and Donna Doty were guests of the Lions at the regular Monday evening meeting. The Dotys are new residents of Ava, having moved here from Oklahoma a few months ago. Kevin wanted to be near his father who was in bad health.
Sadly his father passed away a week ago.
At 17 years of age Kevin joined the military as the third generation in the military. Kevin spent time in the Army National Guard in Texas, worked with the American Red Cross out of Tulsa during the Katrina disaster, and while in Oklahoma he worked as a correction officer. Kevin was on active duty in the Army during the Gulf war and is now a disabled American Veteran. He wants to attend school and study criminal justice.
The Dotys have three children. They hope to make Ava their home for many years to come, and they are potential Lion members.
With May fast approaching the Lions are getting ready for the annual walk/run to be on Saturday, May 14. Applications are coming in quickly. Anyone wanting to sponsor the walk/run, please contact Lions President Larry Morrison at 683-0188, or any Lion member. Also in the planning stage is Project Graduation. The Lions, as usual, will feed the graduates a delicious breakfast the morning after graduation.
The Lions appreciate all of the used eyeglasses that are dropped off. Each year the Lions gather 100′s of eyeglasses and they are put to good use, mostly over seas. The drop-off boxes can be found at Family Vision Centre on the square, Town and Country grocery store, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and at the Community Center. If you have eyeglasses that are not in use, please donate them when you are in any of the locations.
