Olga News

We begin with a note of praise this week from a former member of this community. Many of us have known Shirley (Copeland) Smith since childhood and she recently reported that she had not been able to reach her granddaughter in Japan. She has been teaching there and they were not receiving any reports about her. However, shortly after she called to ask for the prayer chain from church to be activated, she called back and said they had received a phone call from her and that everything was alright. There is still mighty power in prayer.

Please also remember Danny and Helen Cheek in prayer. They are the parents of Sarah Inman and two of their businesses at a seaside resort in Kona, Hawaii received substantial damage.

Remember that the Webster County Opry will celebrate their 14th anniversary on Friday, April 1 at 6 p.m. at the Rogersville Area Senior Center. A special show is planned and is free to everyone. Several of the show’s original charter members will be present for the performance.

Our community has been so pleased to see the technological advances at Kindall Store. They are now able to accept credit cards and EBT cards. I imagine that Corda Kindall would never have imagined the day when the little old general store would be that far advanced. It is sure a major convenience to many in the neighborhood.

Elsie Myers has asked that I mention the 6th annual cherry pie contest will take place on Friday, April 29 during the Marshfield Cherry Blossom Festival. The contest is open to anyone who wishes to participate; you do not have to live in Marshfield or Webster County.

The pie contest and auction will take place during the annual Hubble Dinner at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Pies can be dropped off at the church beginning at 1 p.m. Judging will take place at 4 p.m. You can learn more by contacting Elsie at 859-3258. You can also visit the festival website for a complete list of information concerning the festival at www.cherryblossomfest.com.

Tours for the Chateau Charmant (the castle here in Olga) are taking place now that warm weather is here again. If you would like a tour of the beautiful castle in our neighborhood, call 241-2321.
