Many acres were blackened Wednesday afternoon as numerous wildfires burned out of control across Douglas County. A MoDOT road grader sparked a fire at the north edge of the Ava city limits Wednesday afternoon that endangered the Trinity Lutheran Church. While Ava City and Ava Rural Fire Departments were handling that fire, another blaze was reported at the junction of Highways 5 and B north of town where this photo was taken. Every available firefighter in Douglas County was activated Wednesday afternoon as strong winds drove fires out of control in many areas of the county.
