Ava High School’s first annual FCCLA Culinary Contest was thoroughly enjoyed by the contestants and the judges.
Students met after school on Friday, March 11, to compete. The rules stated teams must make two appetizers. One must be meatball(s) and sauce and the other was the team’s choice.
Team 1 made mini quiches and team 2 made wontons. Team 3 did not arrive.
Judges for the event were Molly Barrus, Jennifer Horn, and Carolyn Lamb. They really enjoyed seeing what the students could do and were impressed with their recipe selections and the high quality of their teamwork and food.
The winning team was Team 2, made up of Patrick Gateley, Andrew Casey, and Heidi Heier. The second place team consisted of Tiffany Oliver, Kurstin Priebe, and Brandy Graham.
Winners chose from an assortment of prizes such as an apron, a t-shirt, and a flash drive, and the judges received a colorful rubber scraper.
