The Douglas County Herald received the following press release from Douglas County Prosecuting Attorney Roger Wall on Wednesday of this week stating the following:
“Recently, the Douglas County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has been asked by news media about indictments returned by a Douglas County Grand Jury against present and/or former employees of Douglas County.
“I offer these comments without violating the sanctity of the Grand Jury Proceedings and without appearing to be evasive.
“A Grand Jury that was empanelled in 2010 convened on March 4, 2011 at the request of the State of Missouri. As a result of their actions, 30 indictments were issued and seven “no true bills” were returned. The Grand Jury also made some informal recommendations concerning the Office of the Douglas County Sheriff.
“Such indictments are normally sealed until warrants are served on the indicted individuals.
“I should point out that an indictment is allegation only and all indicted or charged individuals are entitled to the presumption of innocence until found guilty by a court of law.
“If anyone has any further questions, I would direct them to a website administered by the State Court Administrator’s Office entitled “Mo. Case Net, 44th Circuit” or the Douglas County Circuit Clerk, Kim Hathcock, may be contacted at 683-4713 for the release of specific public information on any individual.
