Public Meeting At Mtn. View Tonight On National Heritage Area

A public information meeting concerning designation of a 13 county area in southern Missouri as a National Heritage Area will be held tonight (Thursday) in Mtn. View.
Ozarks Property Rights Congress, host of the meeting, has invited West Plains Council on the Arts and Ozarks  Preservation Inc. spokespersons Kathleen Morrissey, Matt Meachem and Kris Norman to discuss with the public their purpose in promoting the federal National Park Service designation.

The proposed area includes Dent, Texas, Howell, Ozark, Douglas, Wright, Shannon, Oregon, Carter, Ripley, Reynolds, Wayne and Iron counties.

Doreen Hannes, Bob Parker and Ray Cunio will present the landowners’ view point and there will be opportunity for questions and comments from the audience, an organizer said.

A representative from Sen. Claire McCaskill’s office has also been asked to attend the 7:30 meeting at the Community Building in downtown Mtn. View.

National Heritage Area partnership coordinator Sue Pridemore of the NPS has declined an invitation to attend.
