Household Hazardous Waste Collections Planned This Spring

The South Central Solid Waste Management District will hold free collections of household hazardous waste items at various locations throughout the area this spring.

Among the item to be accepted at the collection sites will be paint, including latex, oil based and aerosol cans; used motor oil and antifreeze; batteries including vehicle, rechargeable and button types; and pesticides and herbicides.

Microwaves and computers will also be accepted, and old televisions will be accepted for a $10 fee.

These collections are for households only, no businesses. Also, no containers larger than five gallons will be accepted.

All collection sites are open to residents of the seven counties of the Solid Waste District which include Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark Shannon, Texas and Wright.

If you have large quantities to dispose of you are asked to call 417-932-5345 and let the District know.

All collections will be open from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Collection sites will be as follows:

March 26-Gainesville, at the Recycling Center on Co. Rd. 503.

April 2 – Cabool, on Main Street by the gazebo.

April 9 – Birch Tree, in town at Ozark Green.

April 16 – Alton, on the square by the courthouse.

April 23 – West Plains, at the Transfer Station.

April 30 – National Drug Take Back Day.

May 7 – Ava, at the County Shed on Highway FF off East Hwy. 14.

May 14 – Mountain Grove, at the City Maintenance Shed on Hwy. 95.

May 21 – Licking, at the City Maintenance Shed on Prescott Road.

May 28 – Willow Springs, at the parking lot by Booster Field.
