Beaglers To Host State Event For Kids In May

Douglas County Beaglers and Tri-County Beaglers of Mountain Grove will host the Missouri State Championship for Kids in Mansfield Saturday, May 28. The youth beagle hunt event takes place on the grounds of Top of the Ozarks Shooters Facility in Mansfield, Mo.

The event which is sanctioned by the United Kennel Club (UKC) was host to 45 children last year, and families traveled from out-of-state to be a part of the event and weekend activities.

According to organizers, the competition is all about running the dogs, and teaching youth the joys of outdoors skills. The event is free for youths and teens ages 5–17.

On Friday evening, members of the beagle clubs entertain the group with a time of fellowship, bonfire weenie roast and other fun activities. For the hunt, on Saturday morning, participants are grouped by age, and cast into teams by luck of the draw. Each team has an adult supervisor.

The teams compete for best time in circling a rabbit, and winners are determined by a point system. A set of rules and deadlines must also be followed.

Some individuals and businesses from the area that help support the event are: Craig Carter, MFA, Town & Country Bank, Century Bank, and Jason McPherson Law Firm.
