A number of local artist have donated examples of their work to be sold in the silent auction at the annual chili supper that benefits the Skyline Area Volunteer Fire Department. This oil painting of the old store building in Downtown Champion was created by Pat Michaud of Marshfield and is sure to draw some significant interest as the old building is so fondly remembered by people in Champion and surrounding communities. Bidding will open at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 5th in the gym at the Skyline School and will close at 8:30. Also featured is the work of Rita Fancher in a small painting of a mill and it’s stream in autumn. Local potter, Louise Walker has donated a one of a kind ceramic serving platter, and artist Liz Jenkins of the Art Guild has produced some very interesting jewelry for the occasion. There is always great competition for the handcrafted jewelry of Loren Mastrangelo. Woodworkers have been busy and generous as well. Bill Long of Norwood has crafted a lamp hanger of yellow pine and Tim Scrivner is dedicating another of his excellent bird feeders to the cause and perhaps a bluebird house as well. There are sure to be some surprises as talented people in the Skyline Area Fire Department Association step up to share their art and their support for this vital organization. The painting of the Old Store will be on display in the Temporary Emporium on the West Side of the Square in Downtown Champion until Saturday.
