
Three people were taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash south of Ava on Highway 5.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a northbound 2003 Ford Escort driven by Joshua A. Somers, 33, of Springfield, crossed the centerline and struck a southbound vehicle in the side, causing both vehicles to leave the roadway.
Both the Somers car and the 2006 Suzuki driving by Jerry L. Holt, 75, of Gainesville, overturned and rolled, and both vehicles came to rest in the ditch.
Both drivers were taken to Cox South Hospital, Springfield, by Cox Ambulance-Ava. A third patient, Barbara J. Holt, 72, Gainesville, was transported by a St. John’s Ambulance to Cox South.
Somers sustained moderate injuries and the Holts suffered minor injuries, according to the report.
The crash occurred at 4:14 p.m., two miles south of Ava on Highway 5.
The wreck was investigated by Tpr. Rob Crewse of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, assisted by Ava Police and Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, as well as Ava Rural Fire Department.
Mark B. Wake, 38, of West Plains, was taken to Ozark Medical Center in West Plains by private vehicle following a one-vehicle crash just after midnight on Feb. 16 in eastern Douglas County.
The Highway Patrol said Wake was traveling west on CR 292 east of Highway 181 when his 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee ran off the road, hit an embankment and overturned.
That wreck occurred at 12:45 a.m. and was investigated by Tpr. P.V. Volkmer.
A Vanzant man, Allen S. Rose, 38, sustained minor injuries in a wreck on Highway 13, four miles north of Osceola in St. Clair County on Sunday, Feb. 20.
According to Troop D, Missouri Highway Patrol, Rose lost control of his 2006 Volvo tractor when a right front tire blew out, causing the truck to run off the roadway and overturn.
Rose was taken to Sac Osage Hospital in Osceola following the 5:53 p.m. crash.
