District Tournament Play Begins This Saturday

Ava’s varsity basketball teams completed their regular schedules this week and are now preparing to begin district tournament action.

Ava teams are assigned to the Missouri Class 3, District 2 tournament which is being played at Cabool.

Girls’ action will begin Saturday, with boys’ play to start on Monday.

The Ava Lady Bears are seeded second in the district tournament and will face Licking in the first round at 5:30 Saturday. A win there will earn the girls the opportunity to play on Wednesday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m., against the winner of the Liberty (3) vs. Cabool (6) game.

The championship game for the girls will be played at 7 p.m. Friday, March 4.

The Ava Bears are seeded third and will face Mtn. Grove in first-round action at 7:30 Tuesday, March 1.

Semifinals for the boys will be played on Thursday, March 3. With a win, the Bears would face the winner of the Liberty (2) vs. Cabool (7) game at 7:30 on Thursday night.

Finals for the boys will be decided on Saturday night, March 5, at 7 o’clock.

With nine teams assigned to the district tournament, Houston (8) and Alton (9) will play a preliminary game to determine who enters the bracket in the No. 8 slot to play the top-seed.

Willow Springs is seeded No. 1 in boys’ play and the Seymour girls have been awarded the top spot on the bracket.

With the Cabool tournament designated District 2 this year, the winner of the tournament will face the winner of the District 1 tournament which will be played at New Madrid next week.
