Some may feel that today’s teens are uncaring and selfish. But you will never convince the family of Carter Campbell of that.
Brock Mitchell, a senior at Ava High School, coaches Carter’s 3rd & 4th grade intramural basketball team.
Last Wednesday, Carter underwent emergency surgery for a ruptured appendix, and on Friday was a very sick young man. Brock asked Carter’s sister, Shelby, what Carter’s favorite number is, and she said, 6. So, Brock put #6 and Carter’s name on his shoes and played the Hoopcoming game in Carter’s honor.
Brock had one of the better games of his career, scoring 20 points in the first half and 23 in the game.
He then went to the hospital to visit Carter and gave him a basketball signed by the entire Ava Bears team.
All the young people on the boys’ and girls’ teams have shown great concern for Carter.
“In this day and age when you hear more bad than good about teens, it is refreshing to see all these young people show such concern and compassion for a 9-year-old,” said Linda Campbell, Carter’s grandmother. “They have big hearts,” she added.
