Douglas County Assessor Alicia Miller-Degase reminds property owners this week that 2011 assessment lists are due in her office prior to March 1.
Assessment forms were mailed out several weeks ago and Missouri law requires that the forms be returned to the assessor’s office by March 1. Those who do not return their forms by March 1 are subject to a penalty which is based on property values.
The penalties are mandatory, and statues provide almost no discretion to waive penalties, Miller-Degase said.
Anyone who did not receive an assessment form in the mail, or anyone with questions about filling out their form, may contact the assessor’s office in the courthouse, at 683-2829.
Also, this year acknowledgement cards are being mailed back to property owners when the assessment sheets are processed. If you do not receive a yellow postcard in the mail indicating your assessment list has been received, you should contact the Assessor’s Office at 683-2829.
