Farm Security To Be Topic of South Central Cattlemen’s Association Meeting

The South Central Cattlemen’s Association will hold its regular meeting Thursday, Feb. 24, beginning at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at Hirsch Feed and Farm Supply in West Plains.  There will be a meal served, compliments of Hirsch Feed and Farm Supply.

In addition to the regular business of the Association, the emphasis will be on providing farm security.  With higher cattle prices, incidents of theft are on the increase.  Representatives of the Missouri Highway Patrol as well as the Howell County Sheriff’s Office will be on hand to discuss steps that individual farmers can take to help deter theft of livestock, farm equipment and other farm items.

The association has completed the first year of existence. The first annual meeting was held with elections for both the board of directors and officers of the organization. Wayne Nichols, Pomona, was reelected president, Tom Hambelton, Dora, was reelected vice-president. John Steffensen, Gainesville, and John Oravec, West Plains, were elected to 3-year terms as directors.

All cattle producers, business associates, and members are encouraged to attend this meeting. For additional information contact Wayne Nichols, president, at 417-277-5420 or email stockfarm@ socket.net.

South Central Cattlemen’s Association was organized last year serving cattle producers in Howell, Ozark, Douglas, Oregon and Shannon counties.  The purpose of the Association is to advance economic, educational, political and social interests of the Missouri Cattle Industry.
