Carol Boeddeker-Genet and many others here on Dogwood Hill are not looking forward to the storms predicted, especially the aspect of ice. The DOT is pretty good at working Hwy 14, especially Dogwood Hill. But, when the ice is on it is chancy to drive anywhere. In preparation of possibly losing electric power I have a few buckets of water drawn, and a few jugs as well. At times like this it is comforting to have a full propane tank and a wall heater that does not require electricity, a lantern or two and a box full of candles.
Randy has been doing a bit of burning for the first time in three years. Hopefully this will cut down on ticks, chiggers and fleas for later this year. The flea infestation of last year was overwhelming and the pets suffered in spite of bathing and Frontline being applied regularly. We’ve had some sick calves and apparently others are having this problem as well. It sure hits the pocketbook when one has to spend a lot on cures for snotty noses, etc. Randy & Regina have been busy fixing fence, feeding hay, etc.
Sunday afternoon was another clay shooting party at Randy’s but this time my dogs didn’t complain. I understand they ended up having a fish fry.
Several of us at St. Leo’s Church have been putting our heads together to prepare for our annual St. Patrick’s supper on March 17th, which is a Thursday this year. Steve Harter will be heading up the Irish stew making again this year. We have a few ladies to bake the breads. Many will be bringing in various desserts. Of course, the potato soup is my contribution. Sure hope all goes well. This event is open to the community and helps to bring people of many faiths together.
May God bless you and keep you safe from harm….and well.
From the desk of Jamey Herd: Another good service at Pleasant Ridge Sunday. Pastor Carl preached from and about the book of Esther. God is not mentioned directly in the book of Esther but is about the Jewish people and how Queen Esther saved her people. We had a good attendance Sunday and had two young souls added to God’s Kingdom. Another young soul found salvation on Saturday at the youth meeting held at Remington’s in Springfield. Jamey and Billy Joe attended the fifth Sunday Singing at Goodhope General Baptist on Sunday night along with Pastor Carl and his wife, Lavetia, and son Sam. A wonderful singing with some beautiful specials was enjoyed by a large attendance of area churches. Refreshments were served following the singing with carry-in dishes brought by those attending the singing.
Are we ready for the coming storm? I hope everyone has gotten prepared for this one. I dread the below zero temperatures they are predicting. We are having some of our calves getting sick and I understand we aren’t the only ones. This up down weather is hard on them.
Till next week stay well and safe and God’s Blessing to all.
