Last fall when cutting open some persimmon seed, and finding kernels in the shape of a spoon, we were thinking of the prediction (or myth), that we would have a lot of snow this winter. The melting snow will provide moisture, which is needed, as there hasn’t been enough rain the past months. The lake is at a much lower level than usual along with the creeks.
Those celebrating January birthdays on January 25 are Geneva King of Hollister, Missouri; Lisa (Davis) Keller of Salem, Arkansas and Sandi (Chrietzberg) Richards of Lindsborg, Kansas and on January 31 Jaycee Davis will be eight years old.
Shopping in West Plains last Saturday afternoon, Mearl and Beulah Satterfield and I were at the store Aldi’s where I got to see my great-nieces, Kim Moody and Stephanie (Moody) and husband, Dustin Tackitt, and their two daughters.
Edith McKinnon’s Sunday school class, at Mtn. Home had a fellowship meeting at the Western Sizzlin’ Restaurant Sunday a week ago.
Lilly Ridge Extension Club had to call off their regularly scheduled meeting on January 20 because of bad weather and have rescheduled it for Thursday, Feb. 3 at Vaught’s Restaurant. Hopefully new officers for 2011 can be elected that day.
Also programs will be chosen for the coming months. One of four former members, Pam Cawvey, lost her husband last week. She has our sympathy.
This Thursday morning is the Genealogy and Historical Society meeting in Gainesville, with business meeting at 9:30.

Best wishes to Marcia Lyon as she has some procedures done and possibly surgery this coming week in Mtn. Home. She is our adult Sunday school teacher and we depend on her. She is a very busy lady at home and also with husband, Dean and caring for their cattle.
A happy January 30th birthday to Randy Ebrite of Springfield and a belated birthday wish to Joe Gaddy on January 21st, and Velma Strain on January 22nd, cousins who were born the same night.
Best wishes to Ernestine Gaddy who had foot surgery at Cox South Hospital last Monday. Her daughters, Tammy Childress from Jefferson City and Theresa Bridges from Kansas City came for her surgery and stayed for a time. She is to stay off her foot four weeks.
Gainesville Chapter 432 Order of Eastern Star held their monthly meeting Monday evening with a delicious dinner at 6:30 p.m.
