For over four thousand years, Jewish and then Christian scribes have gone to great lengths to accurately copy the manuscripts that have become the Scriptures contained in the Bible. They have been so precise that when the Jews were separated and spread throughout the Middle East and Europe over a thousand years ago, the copies of the Torah from the separated groups only differed by nine Hebrew letters. And, not a one of those letters changed the meaning of any significant word. These facts are related in The Signature of God by Grant Jeffrey.
People like to point to the possibility for ‘human error’, well, so much for that. It would seem that when man’s hand is being guided by the Almighty, errors are greatly reduced. All through history there have been those who sought to destroy the Bible from the Romans down to modern times. However, there is a group that has been working for 111 years to distribute Bibles throughout the world. They are the Gideons.
Currently there are 200,000 Gideons all over the world. Because of their work, there are Bibles in 92 countries and 93 different languages. Jim Norman, a member of this group, came and visited today. He said that two Bibles are distributed somewhere in the world every second of the day. That’s pretty amazing. One hour alone would be 7,200 Bibles. God said in Isaiah 55:11 that His word would not return void. His word is being distributed every second of every day. Just think of how many lives have been reached through this effort.
