1-18-11. I guess I’ve worn out the words I just can’t keep up with the time. It just rolls along so fast. It makes me feel like the horse who says I’ve fallen and can’t get up.
Well, the temperature got up in the thirties and we got snow and sleet. Now the temperature is going down and supposed to get much colder. There’s a crust of ice on top of the snow so Walt went out to shovel a walkway before the crust freezes harder and he can’t shovel it.
We planned our regular trip to Muscatine tomorrow to do Wednesday shopping. We were in the Cities last week on Wednesday and did our shopping there. We didn’t get to visit with Rob because he was babysitting some of his grandkids, so Walt dropped me off at the Silvis Wal-Mart while he ran all of his errands. I got in some good walking while there and I also saw Frank Dee Allison and got to visit with him for a while. We don’t get to see him enough anymore.
There’s a big bush outside the bedroom window where the birds gather in the winter. It is sort of like a community hall for them. All the winter birds are there, then they fly back and forth to the feeder in front of the house. I read in the paper where people have been seeing robins around the Quad Cities Area this winter and they said more and more of them are staying here each winter. I guess now when we see them it doesn’t mean a sign of spring. We’ll have to watch for the hummers and other birds that still go south for the winter.
I don’t’ know if this will get to Ava in time to make the paper or not. I try to get them in the mail on Mondays, but of course, the mail didn’t run yesterday. I’ve got good news and bad news today. The good news is that Walt (Bob) Allison’s granddaughter, Amber, had her little baby girl and they are both doing fine. It is a relief that that’s over and they are both okay. Her name is Savanna and I don’t know if I’m spelling it right or not. It seems like it should have an H in it. I have the spelling somewhere, but of course, I can’t find it right now. I don’t want to take time to look for it, because as soon as Walt gets a path shoveled out he’s going to go to the mailbox to mail something and I want to have this ready.
The bad news is that Walt’s son-in-law, Bob Stephens of Ozark, MO. (Mona’s husband) was driving his truck through Utah and he had two heart attacks. He parked and called 911 and got to the hospital where they told him some of his arteries are blocked so bad that one side of his heart was dying. That sure is a scary thought. They did bypass surgery and I think it was four times and the last we heard the surgery was over and he was still asleep. That news came last night. Mona went out there to be with him and I think Candi is going too. I hope I’ve got everything right about this. If not I will try to get it right next time. Candi and Jared went to Michigan over the weekend to see his brother, who was getting ready to go to Afghanistan and when they got back she was going to go to Ogden, Utah to be with her Mom and Dad. We are hoping and praying everything goes well with Bob and he can come home before too long. As far as I know, my family is okay and the rest of Walt’s family, we have sort of lost track of where all his nephews are, but I hope they’re all safe and healthy wherever they are. We’re anxious to see the new little bundle of joy when the weather conditions are better. I’m also curious to see what her little “big” brother thinks of her. He just turned one this month. He is so sweet.
Well, Walt just came in and said, “Mission Accomplished,” so he made it up to the mailbox and back. He’s waiting for me to finish this so he can take it and a get-well card to Bob to the mailbox, so I’ll say bye, bye for now.
