Hello from our home to your home. Residents enjoyed the snow especially making snow ice cream. Maxine Lirley and Peggy Jenkins gave lessons on making snow ice cream and it was good. Here is our recipe for snow ice cream. We made two batches and everyone got to enjoy the ice cream made the old-fashioned way.
Here are the ingredients:
Clean snow and lots of it (approx. 3 gallons)
4 eggs beaten
Vanilla
Sugar – enough to make it sweet as you like it.
Milk
Mix everything together and then eat it.
Ava United Methodist Church was here on January 9 for church services with the residents. Mound Church was here on the 16th for church services and Ava General Baptist Church was here on the 23rd for church services. Larry Moore teaches Sunday school on Sunday mornings. Norma Stillings plays the piano on Saturday mornings starting at 10 a.m. followed by Saturday Church with Tom Hawkins. Ava Full Gospel Church was here for Wednesday Church services with the residents.
Residents enjoyed watching the movie “Shiloh” with Carla and Jeanine from Hospice Compassus. The girls popped popcorn, provided the drinks and even brought in theatre candy for the residents to enjoy. I hear everyone had a good time with Carla and Jeanine. Jeff Smith was here for an afternoon with the residents.
The Monthly Birthday was here on December 12, the ladies from Faith Rock Church provided the cakes. The band was sick with the flu and couldn’t attend. We put in a Gaither tape and enjoyed the cake, ice cream and punch. We appreciate Wanda Ray, Audrey Huffman and Sybil Fleetwood for helping serve the cake and ice cream. They visited with several residents. The First Sonshine Group plays each and every Friday starting at 10:30 a.m. This is a very good group. Come on out and have a cup of coffee with us and enjoy this group.
In Cooking Club residents enjoyed making vanilla crack. This is an awesome recipe for saltine crackers. Line a big cookie sheet with foil, cover with crackers. In a pan mix together two sticks of salted butter, one cup of sugar, and one teaspoon of vanilla, mix it together boil for five minutes then pour over crackers. Cover crackers with salted nuts then bake for ten minutes at 350 degrees. This is an awesome, awesome snack. We always have a great time cooking. Everyone has a different idea about adding this and adding that and how long to actually cook it. Staff always enjoys our cooking.
Residents enjoyed Movie Time watching the movie “Rooster Colburn” starring John Wayne and Katherine Hepburn. Popcorn and drinks were passed around to everyone.
We would like to send our prayers and sympathy out to the family of Marie Long and Bonnie Pahl. These ladies are going to be missed very much.
