Marie G. Long, 91 years, 10 months, and 21 days old, passed to heaven on Jan. 17, 2011 at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare, Ava, Mo.
Marie was born Feb. 27, 1919 in Squires, Mo., to William “Billie” and Hester (Loder) Frye.
Marie lived most of her life in the Ava area. On Nov. 18, 1939 Marie and George E. Long were united in marriage in Columbia, Mo., and to this union one son, George S., was born.
Marie was a Christian and a minister of the Gospel.
She was called to be an evangelist at a young age and served 34 years with the Assembly of God organization. She also served as a missionary in Oklahoma with the Indian Reservation and a missionary leader with Women’s Missionary Council with the Assembly of God. In addition, Marie pastored several churches in the surrounding communities.
She was a member of the Faith Rock Church in Ava, Mo.
She enjoyed quilting with the church ladies and also delighted being a part of the Red Hat Ladies.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George E. in 2004; four sisters, Irene Haynes, Julie Brown, infants, Ruth and Ethel Frye; three brothers, Henry, Orville and Jimmie Frye.
Marie is survived by a son and wife, George S. and Pat Long, Ava, Mo.; one grandson, Aaron Keith Long, Ava, Mo.; one brother, Howard Frye, Sunnyside, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Vera Campbell, Columbia, Mo.; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Marie were Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with burial in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation was Wednesday, from 1 p.m. to service time in the funeral home. Officiating was the Rev. Betty Hesterlee. Memorials may be made to Gideons International.
