Bob Hammonds and Wildwood brought home the gold from the regional bluegrass convention held in Jefferson City last weekend.
Hammonds, along with Doug Mitcham and Laura Pilant, make up Bob Hammonds and Wildwood. The local band from the Oldfield area was nominated for six awards at the Midwest USA SPBGMA (Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America) convention held Jan. 15 and 16 at the Sheraton Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City. They came home with four awards.
Awards won by Wildwood include: Album of the Year, “If Not for the Cross”; Gospel Group of the Year; Vocal Group of the Year; and Songwriter of the Year, won by Hammonds.
Many bands from all over the region attended this event. Jam sessions were in every corner, even the glass elevator, one band member said.
Many relatives and friends attended and supported the group all through the weekend.
