Lady Bears Take SCA Win Over Mtn. View-Liberty

The Ava Lady Bears took a 24-7 lead in the first quarter last Thursday night at Mtn. View-Liberty and went on the beat the Eagles, 70-47.

Payton Lakey and Jorie Garrett had the offense rolling, scoring 17 and 15 points respectively. They also had nine rebounds apiece.

Taylor Pruett had 15 points for Liberty and Hailey Cornman added 12.

Liberty outscored Ava 17-12 in the second quarter to trim Ava’s halftime lead to 36-22, and the teams matched up point-for-point in the third period. Ava’s girls then outscored Liberty 19-10 in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Others scoring for Ava were Kristen Hastings 9, Bethany Horn 8, Abbie Lansdown 8, Melissa Coonts 6, Emily Sterling 5, and Kayley Watson 3.

The Lady Bears will play Conway at home tonight and will participate in the Reeds Spring Tournament next week.

First action at Reeds Spring will be Monday night, Jan. 24, at 8 p.m. vs. Hurley.

The Lady Bears are 11-4 overall and 3-0 in the SCA with the win over Liberty.
