Voters will have plenty of choices to make in April, when they go to the polls for the City of Ava and school board elections.
Filing closed Tuesday afternoon with five candidates seeking the office of Ava mayor, and races for alderman in both the East and West wards of the city.
There are also races for school board seats in all three public school districts of Douglas County.
City of Ava
Ava Mayor Leon Harris is seeking a fifth term in April and is being challenged by Larry Morrison, Richard “Moose” Allen, Bobby Shebiel and Eddie Maggard.
In the East Ward of the city, incumbent Burrelly Loftin is challenged by Phillip L. Davis, and in the city’s West Ward, alderman Billy Long is being challenged by Brenda Dammann.
Ava R-1 School District
Voters in the Ava R-1 School District will elect three board members to regular 3-year terms on April 5.
Seeking re-election are board members Randy Spurlock and Jeffory Davis. Other challengers for the board seats are Mandi Carr, Ron Wallace and Marsha Aborn.
Dr. Daniel Williams had filed earlier as a candidate but officially withdrew his name from contention this week.
Skyline R-2 School District
Three incumbent board members are seeking re-election in the Skyline R-2 District, along with two challengers who are also seeking election.
Candidates there, in order of filing, are Travis Shearer, Tim Scrivner, Patricia Blasius, Butch Linder and Wroy Roworth.
Shearer, Scrivner and Roworth are the incumbent board members.
Three regular 3-year terms will be filled on April 5.
Plainview R-8 School District
Three regular terms are also to be filled on the Plainview School Board.
Incumbent board members Mandy Lehmann and Larry Tidwell are candidates for re-election.
Also seeking election there are Robert Loeber, Robert Nagel and Amanda LaVelle.
Douglas County Health Center
The Douglas County Health Center Board has three regular 4-year terms up for election this year, along with one 2-year unexpired term.
Candidates for the regular terms are Larry E. Smith, Phillip L. Davis and Bonita Stafford. Larry Wrinkles is a candidate for the 2-year unexpired term.
Ava Area Ambulance District
Two incumbent board members are seeking re-election to the board of the Ava Area Ambulance District.
James Brown is a candidate in District #3 which includes the townships of Walls, Springcreek and Campbell.
Keith Moore is a candidate for re-election in District #6 which involves Benton Township east of Highway 5 and south of Highway 14.
