Free Cholesterol Screening at Do. Co. Health Department

The Douglas County Health Department will be holding free lipid profile screenings by appointment only for anyone who has not had a screening in the past three months.

Screening will be held on Tuesday morning, Feb. 8, from 7-10 a.m. and Thursday morning, Feb. 10, from 8-10 a.m.

This screening includes the HDL (good cholesterol), LDL (bad cholesterol), total cholesterol, triglycerides, total/HDL ratio, and glucose.   The client should fast from food or drink, except water, for 9-12 hours before the test.

The National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) recommends a lipid profile as the initial test for coronary heart disease. There are a number of factors that can increase your risk for coronary heart disease.

To make an accurate assessment, your health care professional will evaluate your lipid profile, overall health, weight, diet, blood pressure, amount of exercise, and risk factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, family history of heart disease and diabetes.

Supplies for testing materials are limited so call soon to make your appointment at 683-4174.
