Children’s Home Begins Emphasis On Nutrition

The Wright County Children’s Home is excited to announce that it is beginning a push to further improve the nutritional content of the meals served at the home.  Not only will this improve the overall health and well-being of the children, but recent studies have shown that good nutrition also affects things such as energy levels, cognitive development, and behavior.

The houseparents already do a great job of preparing delicious and nutritious meals for the children, however, they are constantly in need of a few hard-to-come-by or expensive items.  Not only do they want to cover the four food groups at each meal, but would also like to have as much variety as possible.

If anyone in the community would like to help in this endeavor, the following is a list of needed items to help achieve their goals:

Fresh vegetables: lettuce or salad mix, cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, avocadoes, green onions.

Fresh Fruits: grapes, melons, cherries, all kinds of berries, peaches, plums, pears, pineapple.

All kinds of dried fruits.

Whole-grain or multi-grain:  pastas, bread, bagels, English muffins.

Please call ahead before you bring the bread or fresh fruit and vegetable items to help ensure that the supply on-hand stays as fresh as possible. You may call the home at 417-746-1420.
