Silver Sneakers Fitness Program is an energizing, fun program that helps older adults take greater control of their own health by encouraging physical activity, and offering social events.
The program is covered under health plans, and benefits include:
––free basic membership at a participating location;
––access to basic amenities;
––custom designed classes for older adults;
––a fitness advisor to help seniors with exercise classes.
This program would be a positive addition to the Ava Wellness Center, and administrators are asking for your help.
In order for the local facility to be a participant, it must be listed on the web site, Silversneakers.com. You can help by doing the following:
1. Call your health plan provider to see if they offer the program and let them know you want to sign up. (Sign up is free and may pay membership costs).
2. Inform them that you have a new Wellness Center and you would like to use this facility in Ava, Mo.
As local residents pass along the availability of the Wellness Center to their health plan providers, and express a need for the program, it is hoped these efforts will enhance the Wellness Center’s opportunity to be included on the website.
Some health plans that participate in the Silver Sneakers program are: AARP Medicare Complete from Secure Horizons; Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield; Harmony Health Plan of Illinois, Inc.; Humana; Ozark Health Plan; Wellcare, and many others as well.
