Saturday night and Sunday cold wind chilled the December shopping, and church attendance also, as it was hard to wrap up enough to keep warm.
Roger and Lanell Long and Rhonda Newton made a trip to Georgia in November and visited Rhonda’s cousin, Renee (Lewis) Melton. They went on to the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina, where the colors were still beautiful, along with the lakes and beautiful falls.
Joe Lewis, from Jacksonville, Florida brought a couple of friends to hunt, visiting with Roger and Lanell Long and with his brothers at Clark Ridge in November.
Iva Jones, the lady Lanell Long cares for in her home, was 107 years old in November. There were 18 friends and family who helped her celebrate at Hoppers Supper Club and her grandson danced with her. She got a standing ovation. Her residence is in Mtn. Home.
Are our landowners ready for elk to possibly get closer to the Ozarks as they are being restored in Shannon, Carter and Reynold Counties before too long? Maybe they won’t travel this way.
Edna and Beverly Uchtman, Kelly Stafford and Lanell Long enjoyed a shopping trip to Silver Dollar City and Branson, last week.
The Lilly Ridge Extension Club met at Lynn Bentele’s home in the Caney Mountain area Monday, December 6. There were five members present. Next meeting will be January 20 and election of officers and planning program books for 2011 will be taken care of as these had to be postponed in December. Eight sacks were prepared and delivered Monday evening to several folks. Christmas ornaments were made at Lynn’s home and taken to the nursing home for the residents.
On Friday Paralee Rea and Steve Hornstra delivered Christmas baskets, provided by the Bakersfield American Legion Post 374 Auxillary, to two Ozark County veterans who were recipients of the gifts.
Roger and Lanell and Rhonda Newton’s went to Melbourne, Arkansas for Rex Lewis’ wife, Barbara’s graduation when she received her RN degree, and was “pinned” by her daughter. Friday Rex Lewis family, Rhonda’s and Lanell’s all went to Silver Dollar City and stayed at their Holiday Hills condo. There were 11 family members present.
George Szabo will have shoulder surgery at Ozark Medical Center in West Plains Friday, December 17.
Interim Pastor Danny Norton’s mother, Faye Allen, is in the hospital at this writing. Best wishes to them.
Prayers are for a former Tecumseh resident in Scottsdale. AZ., Mildred Worley, who is in the hospital with a serious infection of her kidneys. Her daughter, Pam, sent word to friends, Paul and Judy Breyne. Paul’s sister in West Plains is also having health problems.
Judy Breyne had her house re-roofed last week on PP Highway. They are planning a pre-Christmas trip to visit her son and grandchildren in Sedalia. Snacks and sandwiches will be served in the fellowship hall at Lilly Ridge Church following Sunday night service, December 19, with communion and candle light service, along with the Christmas program.
We appreciate Robert Arnett for all his work cracking black walnuts and sharing with friends.
Maxine Smith returns this week from Tempe, AZ., where she has visited her daughter and husband, Marsha and Curt Hallam.
News of Verda Mae Gunter’s passing reached us Sunday.
