The Spurlock Family gathered at the Squires Community Center for their annual Christmas Eve Celebration. This year was most likely the 105th time that the descendants of Charles and Addie Spurlock came together again to celebrate Christmas. The hosts were Joan and Kit Clark, and even with bad weather predicted seventy-three were in attendance.
Attending this year was: Annette Clayton, Steve and Thelma Clayton, Ashley and Austin, Doug and Michelle Clayton and Cody, Vicki Nelson, Scott Huff, James Clayton and Ebonee, Brandon Nelson, Brittany Maggard, Bill and Mary Lou Hodges, Lea Ann Crum, Ashton and Erin, Martin and Amy Hodges, Wayne and Sue Kellogg, Dorothy Spurlock, Reggie Spurlock, Jared Spurlock, Michael and Regina Hampton, Joslin, Isaiah and Aaron, Rebecca Hampton, Fred Johnson, Randy and Renee Spurlock, John, Sarah-Bo and Julia, Trevor Watterson, Janice Campbell, Emily and Timothy Eden, Robbie and Rebecca Campbell and Alex, Joan and Kit Clark, Miriam Flouer and Trey, Daniel and Emily Clark, Chuck Spurlock, Jerry and Judy Spurlock, Rick and Sheila Spurlock, Charlie Spurlock, Nathan and Chrystal Mayfield and Aeriel, Sarah and Ryan Ehbrecht, Whitney, Weston and Yasmine, Gabriel El-Kassamani, Carolyn Wolfe, Casey and Jessie, Linda and Dick Detweiler and Zahra, and Joe Spurlock.
Our hostess, Joan Clark, asked the blessing over the noon meal. Quite a shock was had while some were finishing their dessert, the door burst open to hear a man in a red suit shout “Feliz Navidad!” The children enjoyed sitting on Santa’s lap and opening presents, and Joan gave out a special container of candy to each family.
Chuck Spurlock received honors for being the only child of Charles and Addie that was able to be present. He also had all five of his children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren present. The Spurlock family has grown and moved to many places across the nation, however plans are already being made to meet again next year at Squires.
