The Douglas and Ozark Counties Retired Teachers and Other School Personnel met for lunch Tuesday, December 14 at the Highway House Café in Ava, Missouri. Christmas music was provided by members of the Ava High School music department under the direction of Michelle Wolfskill.
Betty Moore opened the meeting with prayer. Out-going RTA president, Doris Morrison, conducted the installation of officers for the 2011 year. They are Marie Bristol, president, Teri Hall, vice president, and Norma Stillings, Secretary. Julane Williams, treasurer was unable to attend. Doris Morrison thanked the group for the support she had gotten during her time as president and asked the group to support the new president and other officers in the coming year.
The retirees noted the passing of RTA member, Mary Alice Emerson. A motion was made and approved to donate $25 to the Douglas and Ozark Counties RTA Scholarship Fund. Other donations were made for a total of $65 to the scholarship fund in memory of Mary Alice Emerson.
A motion was made and approved to authorize Ida Mae Huse and Jane Elder to purchase gifts for former teachers residing in the Gainesville Nursing Home and Julane Williams to purchase gifts for former teachers residing at Heart of the Ozarks and Ava Place in Ava.
Marie Bristol asked for volunteers to serve as chairmen for the standing committees. Barbara Groover agreed to be Membership Chairperson for 2011.
