Friday James and me attended Delmina Woods Christmas program at the V.F.W. in Ozark. The girls had two short plays. They got lots of nice gifts and a great dinner was served. Huba Rozell, Marie Day and Faye Stevens also attended. Several different clubs, organizations, churches and individuals helped out. It was real nice.
Saturday night we attended the Mt. Olive Christmas program. It was real nice. Jerry Maggard Jr. prayed a very touching prayer. You don’t hear a prayer that humble and that causes tears to flow as they are pray very often. Jerry and Neva are so proud of Jerry, Tattie and Zorie. They have a good Christian family.
Sunday we enjoyed church services at Cardwell Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. James Orick brought the message. Some are asking about the location. Go to Z Highway off Highway 14 at Dogwood. Go approximately 4-1/2 miles and turn right on Dillon Road. Stay on Dillon Road where it forks and turn left on Cardwell Chapel Road. It is approximately 300 yards to the church on the right by Cardwell Cemetery. The church welcomes everyone and on December 26 the day after Christmas there will be a late Christmas dinner. Bring poems and your music and fellowship with us. That way you can get rid of your Christmas leftovers.
After church Sunday we attended the Christmas program at Black Oak. Dana Lafferty called and invited us to see the kid’s program. It was a lot like Mt. Olive’s. Dana sent the rest of her homemade chocolate cake home with us. She knows how James likes his chocolate. It was good to see our cousin, Betty Satterfield, as that is her home church.
It was good to see Roger and Irene Swearengin at Mt. Olive. She whispered and told me it was good to see three of her grandchildren in the program. Pastor Keith Lafferty asked Roger to open with prayer and was good to hear him pray. Roger is a good humble person.
Rex and David Halcomb, Kit Grimes visited James and me. Kit brought some good summer sausage.
Cardwell will not be having New Years Eve Watch.
Church services are at 11 a.m. every Sunday. They don’t have a pastor and James is preaching there.
I was sorry to read about the death of Rev. Dale Graham, who passed away at age 55. Preachers get sick and die too. I think people look at them like you do your doctor. Doctors get sick too. I have seen James preach so hard I would worry. Iona Maggard said her husband, Preston, would preach so hard that it would scare her and she thought he might die in the pulpit. Bro. Dale did. James always said that would be the best way to go. James’ leg problem will always be with him and we like working in church and for the Lord and maybe God can use us.
It is good to feel wanted and needed and that God can use us.
Mt. Olive at Highlonesome will dismiss their monthly singing in December due to it being on Christmas Day.
So remember it in January. Remember no monthly singing in December.
A thought for the week – Life is like a grindstone – whether it grinds you down or polishes you up, depends on the stuff you’re made out of.
Happy Holidays!
