WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) will lead the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services in the 112th Congress, it was announced today.
“I’m honored to lead the subcommittee, where we have a great opportunity to curtail activities of the federal government that have a negative effect on jobs, on transparency and on accountability to taxpayers,” Emerson said. “Finding appropriate and thoughtful ways to create better efficiency within the entities charged with oversight of the financial sector of the country will be a challenge, but I am committed to working with Chairman Rogers and my colleagues on the committee to achieve our goals on spending. I very much appreciate the leadership of Chairman Rogers, and I’m very excited about the committee’s direction.”
Emerson, the lead Republican on the subcommittee in the 111th Congress, says her priorities will include limits on implementation of the Obama-Pelosi-Reid health care law, oversight measures at the Treasury and other agencies – as well as an emphasis on finding savings for the taxpayer.
“Each and every one of our Republican committee members are committed to the historic challenge of dramatically reducing government spending and getting our economy on a sustainable and responsible path. It is with their expertise, hard work, and leadership that this Congress will begin to undo the damage caused by record deficits and debt, put Americans back to work, and provide for a secure financial future. We have a tough road ahead of us, and this Committee will begin our work immediately to accomplish our goals for the 112th Congress,” Rogers said.
