The city of Ava gained 165 residents in the past 9 years, according to preliminary data from the U.S. Census Bureau released last week.
Ava’s population was at 3,021 in 2000, and jumped to 3,186 in 2009.
Douglas County saw a gain of 524 residents in the same time period, moving from 13,084 residents in 2000 to 13,608 residents in 2009.
Statewide population increased from 5,595,211 in 2000 to 5,987,580 in 2009.
Missouri’s population grew by 7 percent in the last decade, according to 2010 Census data released last week.
The population figures are used to determine the number of Congressional seats in each state, as well as the amount of federal aid each state receives.
Missouri is anticipated to lose a Congressional seat due to population changes compared to other states.
