A large part of Ava woke up Monday morning in the dark, after a power pole snapped at the intersection of S. Jefferson St. and SE 6th Ave. Evidence at the scene along with an eye-witness account indicated a tractor-trailer rig hooked the pole while attempting to turn around in the intersection.
A fire hydrant and traffic sign were also ripped out and were left lying in the middle of Jefferson Street.
As of Monday afternoon the truck had not been located but Ava Police were following leads.
Power was restored to most of town within a few hours, but customers along South Jefferson, including Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center, Underwood Shell, and the Sundown Ridge residential subdivision did not get their power back on until about 1:30 Monday afternoon.
