Sunday, December 12 was the third Sunday in advent, known also in the Anglican tradition as Rose Sunday as the altar and vestment colors are rose symbolizing a lightening of the advent penitence as well as the new life we look forward to in Christ. The third candle on the advent wreath is lit and this candle too is rose to set it apart from the other three blue candles.
Fr. Glen based his sermon on the Old Testament reading for the day, the first chapter of Jeremiah, the calling of the prophet, in which God appoints him to carry God’s message to the world, “Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.” In the same way we are all called by God to obey His word.
We were saddened this week by the loss of our oldest member, Howard McGill, who passed away at the great age of 98 years. He and his late wife, Billie Sue, were faithful members of St. Francis for many years and will be missed. Fr. Glen conducted the funeral service on December 11 for Howard with burial in the Spring Creek Cemetery.
