Seventh, Eighth Grade Girls Defeat Zizzers

Ava defeated West Plains 46-24 at Ava Monday night.

Callie Eubanks led all scoring with 17 points, followed by Destiny Sparnicht 16, Lakota Blakey 6, McKenna Hunsaker 5, and Ashley Helm 2.

Ava improved their record to 4-4 on the year.

“Everyone got in the game, and I saw some wonderful things from the rest of the team,” said Coach Justin Gilmore. “The girls’ defensive intensity is what won them the game.”

“Our pressure defense has given us a chance to win almost every game, but our half-court defense is still a work in progress. The girls are beginning to believe they can win and hopefully their faith in winning will continue to grow.”

The seventh grade girls also won 41-12 against West Plains.

This win improves the seventh grade record to 7-1.

Jacey Swofford led all scoring with 17 points, followed by Hunter Shelton 6, Keeley Deal 5, Caley Wallace 4, Hope Evans 3, Kaylee Dimirski 2, Allison Welch 2, Breanne Potter 1, and Bailey Loge 1.

“The seventh grade is doing a much better job of playing together as a team,” Gilmore said. “The girls have been sharing the ball much better and their team play has led to a lot of success.

“We will continue to get better on defense and hopefully that will lead to many more wins.”
