Every week, we ask area residents a question. The question may be serious, or it may be light-hearted. We will print the answers we receive here.
For this week’s question we asked:
Do you think reducing the speed limit on NW 13th Street will discourage people from using that street as a shortcut to Walmart?
I think most of the problem is people not wanting to go through the bother of the 4-way intersection. Even if the street speed limit is reduced, I doubt that folks that take that shortcut would refrain from taking it in the future. – Don Sikes
I live on 13th, and it is definitely the main issue with those walking in the neighborhood.
The limit is 25 mph already, and isn’t followed by hardly anyone. As long as there is a straight shot from Y Highway to Walmart the cars will use it, and at WAY faster than the 25 mph that is already there. More than one person has had to jump into the ditch because of the speeders. – Dan Stillings
No, I do not think people will be discouraged because they do not obey the speed limit now. – Neva Nicewarner
Nope, I’ll still use those streets regardless of the speed limit. – Rachel Irby
No, not at all! – Yvonne Dilley
Next week’s question is: Do you buy your Christmas presents early, or do you wait until the last minute? Do you have a special shopping strategy? E-mail answers to whitney@douglascountyherald.com or call 417-683-4181.
