E. Geneva Mitchell, 78

The memorial service for E. Geneva Mitchell will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010 at the Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, Medford, Ore.

She was born and raised on a farm in Ava, Mo., Sept. 6, 1922 to James Blaine and Della May (Sanders) Shelton.  She was unaware of the Great Depression until in High School in Phoenix, Ariz. While in Phoenix she met her future husband Travis Mitchell just prior to him leaving for World War II. While on leave from the Aleutian Islands they were married in Las Vegas, Nev. They came to the Rogue Valley of Oregon after his discharge via Flagstaff, Ariz.

From Medford, Ore. they moved up the Butte Falls highway the year it was paved. Later they settled in the Griffin Creek area for 33 years.

After Travis’ passing Geneva moved to be near family for a few years before returning to live and walk in her beloved Rogue Valley foothills. She was the last of her generation.

She is survived by two sons; Clifton Mitchell of Medford, Ore., and Larry Mitchell of Seattle, Wash.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary of Medford, Ore. is in care of arrangements. www.
