A crowd of over 250 veterans, staff, students and their families gathered at Ava Victory Academy on Sunday, November 7, to show their appreciation to veterans for their sacrifices and the sacrifices of their families.
The Ava VFW Post 5993 presented a White Table POW/MIA Ceremony and presented awards to the Patriots’ Pen and Voice of Democracy winners.

Emily Tredway won first place in the Voices of Democracy contest, while Lauren Cassell won second place in the contest.
The American Legion led the Pledge of Allegiance, Ava Victory Academy senior
Justin Doane presented and led the pledge to the Christian flag and senior Lee Schmidt presented and led the pledge to the Bible.
Mrs. Johnson’s first grade class did an excellent job of reciting “One Nation Under God” by Roger J. Robicheau.
Ms. Williams’ second grade class got the military branches fired up by singing the songs of each branch, followed by Mr. Parson’s third grade class reciting “Our Flag”.
The kindergarten through sixth grade then gathered on stage to sing “America the Beautiful.”
The eleventh and twelfth grade Bible class produced a beautiful video with photographs of local veterans.
The program ended with the kindergarten and pre-kindergarten classes singing “You’re A Grand Ole Flag” and reciting part of the Declaration of Independence.
Participants enjoyed soups, stews, chili and desserts provided by staff and families.
BETA Club, along with some volunteers, served everyone.
Second grade students gave veterans and veteran spouses a box of red, white and blue conversation heart candy from the school and a card made by the students.
Ava Victory Academy is honored to host local veterans each year and offer their heartfelt gratitude for the veterans’ service to our great country.
