1-1-10. It is another new month. We’ve been having fall weather lately. Two weeks ago the temperature got up to 89 degrees then the week after it got down in the twenties one night. We’ve got two big frosts and some less than that. We brought the hanging pots of petunias in on the porch and they’re still okay the cold is going to get them. They have been having big blooms on them all summer. I just don’t know how they can produce so many blooms all spring and summer and still blooming.
We’ve been having a lot of high winds, but no real damage right here, but we see on the news where a lot of places in Iowa and the rest of the Midwest has been getting some real damage from tornadoes and the high winds. We were concerned it might blow the new garage away, but it stood its ground, even though the wind was lifting it up and down. Walt tied some more ropes around it and secured them to the stakes that are already there. So it came through it okay. Some gusts were up to 60 mph.
We’ve still got the little chipmunk living here in the yard in one of the little ground squirrel’s hoe. It’s cute to watch too. Walt said it was out there one day close to him and he talked to it a long time and it just stayed there and looked at him like it was listening to him.
I think the cold has killed most of those bugs we were having such a problem with.
It appears that I’m about over my cold and sinus infection, but it does have a person kind of weak. I went back to my eye doctor so he could check that spot of blood in my eye and its gone now. I sure was glad to hear and see that. He was too. I really like my new glasses. I was always afraid if I got the ones that darken in the sunlight would make things too dark, but I was also wanting to protect my eyes from the sun. Now I can’t even tell the difference when they turn dark or lighten back up.
I haven’t seen any of my family for awhile. Two weeks ago when we went to Muscatine I was taking the sinus infection and by the time I got through shopping I was really tired and didn’t feel like eating so we came on home. Then last Wednesday was one of those really windy days and I still felt bad so I didn’t go. Walt went and did his shopping and came back quick as he got through so I haven’t been anywhere for awhile except when I went to Tipton last week for my eye appointment so I plan to go to Muscatine Wednesday and Tipton on Thursday of this week.
I was so thrilled with my new printer and had just found out it will enlarge pictures too. That really made me happy. There’s several different sizes I can make pictures with the biggest ones being document size. I put a new color ink cartridge in it and it printed two pictures just fine, but from there on it was printing everything in blue and purple. I thought maybe it was the new ink, but I got another new one and it still did the same. I was just heart sick so I took it back to Wal-Mart in Muscatine. I took some of the good pictures I had printed and some of the blue ones and they didn’t even take the printer out of the box and gave me a new printer just like it. I sure was happy about that. I told the lady in the photo department that I was worried that I might have done something wrong that caused it to do that and she said no. There’s nothing you could have done to cause it so that made me even happier to hear that. I also found out that if I copy pictures or anything that had yellowed in time that it takes that out and makes them black and white again. It makes them look new again. I guess they turn a brown color instead of yellow. I’ve been enlarging some of my favorites pictures that I have taken and then laminating them for placemats that way I can see them all the time. Right now I have some I made of a real pretty picture of a day lily.
It’s in the fifties today, but supposed to turn much colder during the long term forecast. I’m pretty sure they said it will just be in the thirties for the high one day. They don’t leave it on the screen long enough when they have the long forecast on there.
Walt talked to Dee by phone and he said Harley, Jeff and Betty are all about the same.
We will sure be glad when the elections are over. We are so tired of hearing them bashing each other on television all the time. Same thing over and over all the time. Out of all them there’s only one person who talks about himself and no one else. That’s our Iowa Senator, Chuck Grassley. It’s so refreshing to hear him after listening to the rest of them. You don’t know who to believe or anything else.
I did get a call last week that was nice for a change. It was Pat Boone with his mellow voice of course it was a recording, but still nice.
I better see if I’ve missed the mail.
Bye, bye for now.
