Carol Boeddeker-Genet doesn’t have much to report this week. The election is over, a very, very long day for those who work the polls – who give of their time to make sure each and every one has the opportunity to vote their conscience. There is an old saying that those who vote have a right to complain and those who don’t vote should keep quiet.
Very few trick-or-treaters showed up on my porch but they were cute and received lots of candy. When I was a child (eons ago!) and lived in the city we went from house to house on block after block and had a great time. It was considered a safe thing to do. Of course afterwards, the candy was allotted to us just a little bit at a time. Now, many churches, schools and businesses have events for the children to have fun and to be safe. Society surely has changed.
Jamey Herd has been under the weather and doesn’t have any news for us this time. We pray she is soon well – and all others under the weather as well.
Granddaughter Regina’s hubby was deployed Saturday to Afghanistan. Things are not going well in our efforts to secure peace in the Mid-East and we must fervently pray for our military and for the harassed citizens in those countries. The military families at home are under stress and need our prayers as well.
Randy Boeddeker got a bull elk in Colorado on Saturday. He said it wasn’t easy or fun packing it out, just exhausting. Many years ago Rory and Randy Boeddeker were hunting in Colorado and were in a separate campsite from their brother Ronnie who arrived later. I had sent three gallon jugs of chocolate chip cookies with Ron so each son would have their own container. It seems Ron didn’t take the jugs to his brothers so when they visited his campsite, they got out the cookies and took one bite out of each cookie. Brothers! Boys! Oh well, it has made for lots of laughs at family gatherings.
“Christ cannot always be seen by those around us because He is so often a quiet, fleeting, small thought in an otherwise big, busy and noisy world. But as people (we) who place our lives in Christ, it’s our job – whatever our situation in life – to magnify and amplify that small place where God dwells within us so that others can see and come to have faith too.” Steve Givens in Living Faith, Oct. 30, 2010
Susan Sinclair reports there were approximately twenty attendees of the prayer breakfast for the community revival Saturday. The scrambled eggs, waffles, pancakes, muffins, cheese cake were wonderful as was the prayer service itself.
The Lord is good, and His mercy endureth forever. Praise your name forever. Thank you Lord Jesus!
Pastor Michael reminded us in The Lord’s Message Sunday that we are commanded of the Lord to pray for those brothers and sisters in Christ who are falling short in obedience to Him, who are obedient in some areas but who disregard some of His commandments. Lord, forgive us who have failed to pray, who have fallen short in that way.
It is vital that we encourage one another, pray for one another – and it may not be comfortable to do – but if we witness a brother or sister sinning we are obligated of the Lord to say with love, that “this is sin” and in our private prayer time to pray for them.
